The cellar of the Saints
The so-called Cantina of Saints is the only remaining evidence of the ancient Benedictine Abbey of St. Silvanus, important religious and economic center of Novara. Located in the center of Romagnano Sesia, is one of the most important places of historical interest in the area of the Novara hills. The structure contains ancient paintings the fifteenth century. These paintings are among the most important in the entire province of Novara, depict scenes from the Bible, in particular matters concerning the life of King David. The cellar of the Saints, unfortunately we have little information, nor is it certain that the original use: perhaps chapel or refectory and chapter house, or burial chamber; you think, however, that the Cellar of the Saints was already used in the past as a wine cellar and storage as agricultural tools, hence the name "Cellar of the Saints." In 1801, during the Napoleonic domination, the winery was purchased by the family of Saints Curioni Romagnano Sesia. In the spring of 1975, the Cantina dei Santi was inaugurated and opened to the public to become a great place of attraction for historians and art lovers as well as offering picturesque setting to taste the local wines at major events. Its frescoes on the labels of the bottles from our cellar make us say that: host the story in and out of the bottle We host the story inside and outside the bottle.
